It is reported that many problems have been created due to the further delay of the Department of Animal Production and Health in providing certificates for the release of eggs issued from India.
Mr. Asiri Valisundara, Chairman of Rajya Vanija Various Statutory Corporation stated that due to this, it has not been possible to release the eggs to the market as planned.
“So far, we are in a difficult situation in terms of releasing eggs to the market. Because we have handed over the spoils of the egg ship that came to Sri Lanka on the 19th. We expected to receive the sample report on Monday. But when we inquired from the Department of Animal Production, they told us that they would be able to give us those reports on Friday. Thus, we have felt that they will take a maximum of 10 days for this purpose. With this, we have been in a lot of trouble in terms of releasing it to the market.”
Mr. Asiri Valisundara has also stated that orders have been given to import nearly 5 million more eggs in the future.
