Last March 9th (2022.07.09) the activists raided the President’s House and entered it and handed over the amount of 17,850,000 rupees found there by the activists to the Fort Police Station. The Colombo Fort Magistrate had ordered an investigation into this incident. The Hon’ble Magistrate also issued an order to it in relation to the case bearing case number B 22516/22. The investigation was carried out by the Police Special Investigation Unit, where charges were filed against a group of officers including the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Western Region, Mr. Deshbandhu Tennakoon.
According to the orders given by the court and the Inspector General of Police Wickramaratne, the final report of the preliminary investigation conducted by the Special Investigation Unit was forwarded to the Inspector General by the Director / Special Investigation Unit on 09.02.2023 and according to the final report, Senior DIG Deshbandu Tennakoon, Assistant Superintendent of Police K. Charge sheets have been prepared against Mr. A. E. N. Dil Ruk, Mr. Chief Inspector of Police Mr. MS W. Liyanage and Mr. Chief Inspector of Police M. A. H. D. Perera.
In addition to this, the Assistant Superintendent of Police Mr. K. A. E. N. Dil Ruk against not conducting proper supervision to take legal action regarding the relevant amount handed over to the Fort Police Station, including not reporting the facts to the Honorable Court regarding the relevant amount handed over to the Fort Police Station. Chief Inspector of Police M.S.W.Liyanage against it based on several points and Chief Police Inspector M.A.H.D. A draft charge sheet has also been submitted to Mr. Perera.
Accordingly, criminal cases will have to be filed against these officials. But there is no report on whether or not to do so.
