It is reported that the members of the Ceylon Railway Employees Goodwill Association are demanding that the report of the audit conducted by the Internal Audit Division of the Railway Department be made public immediately.
According to a complaint made by the members regarding the allowances allegedly obtained illegally by the four chief officers of the association, the money spent on new constructions and repairs of the Kataragama retirement hall and the Ratmalana head office, the members stated that the relevant internal audit was conducted on the order of the Railway General Manager.
The members further state that the four concerned officials have illegally taken one-third of the basic salary as allowances, and that the officials of the Ceylon Railway Employees’ Benevolent Association established through an act empowered by the Secretary of the Ministry of Transport cannot take such an allowance.
They also state that the concerned officials have taken money from the association to participate in the investigation and that the income of the Kataragama Retirement Hall has not been banked since last January.
