It is reported that the woman who gave birth to a three-day-old baby girl who was said to have been abandoned behind the Mahiyangana Base Hospital has been arrested on suspicion.
A resident of Girandurukotte area has been arrested on suspicion.
The police say that as a result of investigations conducted on suspicion of a woman who was bleeding profusely in a ward of the Mahianganaya hospital, it was revealed that she had given birth to this baby.
The suspect woman has told the police that after giving birth the child was brought to the back of the hospital.
It is said that the three-day-old baby has been admitted to the special pediatric treatment unit of the hospital.
