It is reported that the Ceylon Petroleum Statutory Corporation’s Independent Workers’ Union has announced that its employees are planning to go on a hunger strike from 7am today (27) against the sale of shares owned by the Ceylon Petroleum Statutory Corporation.
Mr. Jagath Wijegunaratne, Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Statutory Corporation, said,
“Currently the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation is making very good profits. The existing petroleum legal corporation is going to hand over 600 gas stations belonging to that corporation to foreign companies without any reason. This deal is the biggest corrupt, most disgraceful sleazy deal to happen this year. Because this government will not get any dollar from this deal. We have heard that this cabinet paper is going to be submitted to the cabinet soon. Therefore, we finally say that in order to defeat this act of racism, we, the oil corporation trade unions, will start this protest movement with a fast from this morning. We invite all petroleum workers to join the fight to save our oil corporation and secure our jobs, regardless of party or trade union differences.”
