It is reported that the United Postal Union Front has said that it will end the 48-hour symbolic strike started by the postal workers today (09) at midnight.
The postal workers have been on strike since yesterday (08) protesting the sale of the Nuwara Eliya Post Office building and the Kandy Post Office building under the guise of starting a tourist hotel.
However, a very special gazette notice was issued yesterday afternoon as per the orders of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, declaring the postal service as an essential service.
Also, the postal department had also taken steps to cancel the leave of postal employees for 03 days from yesterday.
However, the co-convener of the United Postal Union Front, Mr. Chinthaka Bandara, has stated that if the authorities do not act in the future to provide solutions to their problem, they will intensify the trade union actions.
