Yesterday (10) when a case was filed by lawyer Nuwan Bopage against the Registrar General who refused to record the father’s nationality as Sri Lankan in his child’s birth certificate, the Registrar General promised to include the father’s nationality as Sri Lankan in the relevant birth certificate.
When the writ petition filed by lawyer Nuwan Bopa was called before the Court of Appeal Judge Lafar Tahir, the registrar general decided to end the hearing of the petition keeping the rights of the petitioner lawyer Nuwan Bopa.
Stating that the Registrar General refused to include the father’s nationality as Sri Lankan in his son’s birth certificate, the lawyer requested the Registrar General’s Office to issue a writ to annul the decision taken and also to include the father’s nationality as Sri Lankan in his son’s birth certificate. He also requested the court to do so.
At the time the petition was called, the Registrar General promised to enter the nationality of the father as Sri Lankan in the birth certificate of the petitioner’s lawyer.
Accordingly, the Court of Appeal decided to close the hearing of the petition.
