Ilankei Tamil Sangam, a Sri Lankan Tamil association based in the United States of America, reported that the world’s oldest living tree, Sri Maha Bodhi, could be threatened by toxic acids from the steam emitted from the Norochchole coal-fired power plant.
This was the largest thermal power plant in Sri Lanka, the Lakvajaya Power Plant is also known as the Norochchole Power Plant and it is reported that this power plant is located at the southern end of the Kalpitiya Peninsula, Puttalam, Norochchole.
