It is reported that the writ petition (367/23) submitted to the Court of Appeal challenging the order given by the President on June 08 to remove the boundary stones of the archaeological sites identified by the Presidential Task Force for the Management of Archaeological Heritage in the Kurundi Temple Archeological Site and in the Eastern Province, is scheduled to be heard today (20).
According to reports, the petitioners are former Army Chief of Staff, Mullaitivu Security Force Commander and retired Lt. Gen. Jagath Dias, retired Brigadier Atula Hemachandra de Silva and retired Lt. Col. Anil Sumeda Amarasekara.
It is also stated that Buddha Sasana, Secretary of the Ministry of Religion and Culture Somarathne Vidanapathirana, Buddha Sasana, Minister of Religious and Cultural Affairs Vidura Wickramanayake, former Director General of Archeology Professor Anura Manatunga, current Acting Director General of Archeology Pradeepa Serasinghe, Land Commissioner General, and Attorney General have been named as respondents.
It is reported that President’s lawyer Manohara de Silva is representing the petitioner.
