The reports of the government’s medical supplies department have shown that out of 850 medicines in government hospitals, the stocks of 250 have been exhausted.
Among the drugs that have run out of stock are a large number of drugs used for heart patients as well as drugs used for diabetes, antibiotics, anesthetic drugs, anti-cancer drugs, drugs for arthritis, drugs for skin diseases and drugs for leprosy. Ministry of Health sources have reported that it is included.
Also, at present, the Medical Supply Division and the State Pharmaceutical Regulatory Corporation jointly conduct weekly drug review meetings under the chairmanship of the Director General of Health Services, Dr. Asela Gunawardene, but these sources have stated that there has been no remedy for the shortage of drugs, and the amount of drugs that are in short supply is increasing week by week. .
It has already been informed that the medical supply department will stop receiving stock for the annual drug stock survey by the 20th of this month, and if both stock acquisition and release of drugs are stopped at that time, about 100 more drugs will be added to the list of missing drugs by next month. Sources of the Ministry of Health have further reported that the amount of medicines in short supply may exceed 350.
