It is reported that a discussion was held yesterday (18) regarding the implementation of a digital communication system to avoid delays in merchant shipping and cargo clearance in the port.
The Asian Development Bank has expressed its willingness to provide assistance for this and it is stated that about 35 million dollars will be spent for this digital communication system.
Mr. Nimal Siripala de Silva, Minister of Ports, Navigation and Aviation Services, has stated that this system will be implemented before the end of this year.
