According to a tip-off that a hole was being dug behind a house to retrieve a treasure, three suspects and one female suspect were arrested in a raid that included equipment used for treasure digging.
The raid was carried out by a group of officials including Police Inspector Kulatunga, Station Commander of the Criminal Investigation Division, on the instructions of Chief Inspector Prasanna Welikala, Station Commander of Kekirawa Poli.
It is said that Kekirawa was excavating behind a house in Ilukegama area. Also, a group of residents of Kekirawa Ilukegama area and Matale Inamaluwa Rotary Udanagama area have been arrested.
It is reported that the arrested suspects were found in the possession of a firecracker, a stone thrower, two rock throwers, a 20 cm long tube filled with gunpowder, copper plates, and a Genet nine stick and many sacrificial items were taken into custody by the police.
It is said that the suspects are to be presented to the Magistrate’s Court today (25).
