It is reported that two persons were arrested for obstructing the police duty by assaulting the officers of the traffic department of the Peliyagoda Police.
In front of the Kelaniya railway station, a three-wheeler has carelessly driven across the railway line while the gate of the railway crossing was closed. Although the traffic police officers who were on duty at that time gave orders to stop the vehicle, they disregarded the order and prepared to run away, endangering a lorry as well. But the suspects were chased and the two suspects were arrested in Charakanwa area. It is said that the police officers were also attacked while behaving riotously and arrested with the help of local residents.
The two suspects are scheduled to appear in court today (13).
