It is reported that Colombo Chief Magistrate Mr. Prasanna Alwis today (09) ordered the release on bail of Ratnapura’s “Vishwa Buddha”, who was remanded for insulting Buddhism.
The magistrate also ruled that charges under the Civil and Political Rights Convention Act cannot be maintained against this suspect.
However, the Magistrate said that the Criminal Investigation Department has the ability to investigate this suspect under Section 290 of the Penal Code.
Accordingly, the magistrate who ordered the release of the suspected “Vishva Buddha” owners on two personal bails of 5 lakh rupees each ordered that the complaint be called again on March 27.
