It is reported that due to the rapid decrease in the water level of the Moragahakanda reservoir, the villages that were submerged for the construction of the reservoir are re-emerging.
With the filling up of the Moragahakanda Reservoir, around seven villages have been submerged and disappeared from the map of Sri Lanka and these days all the villages are re-emerging.
As a result, people have been able to see again the old road of Alahera, Hettipola, Kongahawela Hospital, many other government institutions and many main roads.
During these days, many herds of wild elephants and small buffaloes can be seen in the dried up Moragahakanda reservoir.
Also, the Moragahakanda Reservoir was built across the Ambang River and it is said that the Amban River, which used to flow in the past, is now visible.
