It is reported that the Ministry of Public Security has decided to reduce the fine of $500 to $250 from foreigners whose visas expire.
It is said that this decision has been taken considering the complaints received from foreigners regarding the fine amount and the possible impact on the tourism business, and it was approved in a recent discussion in the Parliament.
Also, comments have been expressed in the discussion held in the Parliament that the visits are subject to this fine even after an hour of the visa expiry, which is very unfair.
Moreover, the Ministry of Tourism has previously reported that some tourists will not join the tour in Sri Lanka because of this fine.
