It is reported that today (13) a complaint filed by the Kurunduwatta Police at the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court was filed against 07 people including MP Wimal Weerawansa for engaging in and organizing a protest in a manner that would cause distress to the public when Prince Al Hussain came to Sri Lanka.
It is said that due to Mr. Wimal Weerawansa’s failure to appear before the court when the case was called, Colombo Chief Magistrate Mr. Prasanna Alwis has issued a warrant to arrest the member and bring him to court.
It is reported that the police have informed the court that they engaged in the protest when the United Nations Human Rights Commissioner was on a visit to Sri Lanka.
Among them, 7 persons namely Wimal Weerawansa and Jayantha Samaraweera, Weerakumara Dissanayake, Roger Seneviratne, Mohammed Mussammil, Piyasiri Wijenayake have been named as suspects and Chief Magistrate Mr. Prasanna Alvis issued warrants considering the fact that Mr. Wimal Weerawansa did not appear before the court. According to the report, it will be called again on the 19th of June.
