According to the report, a person who was transporting heroin in a lorry was arrested by the police officers who were on duty at the Gallumudoora roadblock yesterday (17th) night.
When the police officers stopped and searched a small lorry, they found 6949500 rupees in cash and then the driver of the car made a phone call to a person and gave the phone to a police officer.
The person who spoke on the phone said that he would give five lakh rupees to release the lorry and the driver.
At the same time as the phone call, the lorry and the driver were arrested and taken to the Colombo Fort police station and police dogs were used to inspect the vehicle.
3 grams and 340 milligrams of heroin were found hidden in the driver’s seat.
The suspect is a 29-year-old resident of North Kalutara and he told the police that he is engaged in fish trading.
Further investigations are being carried out by the Fort Police and the suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Fort Magistrate Court.
