It is reported that the Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission, Prof. Manjula Fernando, stated that the Consumers’ Association had recently mentioned that the Ceylon Electricity Board had requested the Public Utilities Commission to increase the electricity bills by 56%, but no request has been received so far regarding an increase in the electricity tariffs. .
He has further mentioned that if there is an electricity tariff amendment, it must be approved by the Cabinet and electricity tariffs can only be revised twice a year.
