The Right to Information Commission has decided to hear appeals outside the Colombo District.
After considering the complaints received by the Commission, the Commission has decided to extend it to areas outside Colombo as well.
Previously, such appeals were heard only in the Colombo District.
As the first phase, an appeal hearing has been held in the Jaffna district recently.
The commission also states that another program will be launched in the next few weeks focusing on the Batticaloa district.
The Commission has also decided to launch a public awareness campaign on possible action taken against government agencies that provide information.
The Right to Information Commission has stated that most of the appeals received so far have been against Divisional Secretariats, institutions related to education and health.
The commission also said it had received a significant number of appeals from government ministries and departments.
