Lawyer Hijaz Hezbollah, who was arrested and remanded under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, has been released on bail by the Court of Appeal this morning.
The order was passed by a panel of judges comprising Menaka Wijesundera and Neil Iddawela.
Hijaz Isbullah, who was remanded in custody, was released on bail by the Chilaw High Court after accepting a petition filed on his behalf.
When the petition was called recently, the Attorney General had stated in court that he had no objection to the bail application.
The court issued the order after considering the submissions made by Romesh de Silva, PC, who appeared for the petitioners, and the Attorney General’s.
Hijaz Isbullah, a lawyer, was arrested by the CID on April 14, 2020, for questioning in connection with the Easter Sunday terror attack.
