Yesterday (06) the sun rises as a special day for Sri Lanka, leaving every city deserted and dark. At dawn, Sri Lankan activists renamed the village Horu Go Gama. It was in front of the Parliament of Sri Lanka.
Schools were closed and protests were held in all major cities with black flags. Government agencies such as the post office, hospitals as well as the railways had given their support and more than a thousand trade unions had joined.
Although it was mentioned that the regional secretariats would also be closed, the employees of many divisional secretariats had reported for duty. But people did not show up to do their work, reporters said.
Among these protests was a special and popular rally in front of the Parliament of Sri Lanka. The struggling youth community today called the day “Naked Day” and the youth protest in front of Parliament was called “Nandeta Jangiyak”. As of this morning, they had decided to rename the area as Horu Go Village, following the tear gas attack on the site yesterday. After the tear gas attack, the people closed all the entrances around the parliament.
Police in Sri Lanka have used tear gas to poison peaceful protesters using poison gas used to free hostages.
Meanwhile, the protestors have named (06) as the day of underwear. It is located in the Hor Gogo village premises near the Sri Lanka Parliament. They have started the protest by displaying women’s and men’s underwear at the road block at the entrance to Diyatha Uyana.
Meanwhile, the parliament was heated up as the opposition members continued to call on the government to provide solutions to the people by heating up inside the Sri Lankan parliament, but the government did not respond and the members of the Samagi Janabalawega came to the Speaker’s chamber and staged a strong protest.
Imprisonment of the Speaker
Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, who was appointed as the Deputy Speaker the day before yesterday, resigned again as the day was wasted without a solution.
MPs and Ministers, including Members of Parliament, could not leave Parliament after the close of Parliament. MPs Manusha Nanayakkara and Harin Fernando, who had gone astray, were not allowed to leave and were turned away by the general public.

As the protests continued, the Inter-University Authority ended their campaign by issuing red notices to the government. But the protest continued. At night, security forces launched another offensive targeting peaceful people to disperse the crowd. The attack took place at around 10.00 pm and there was a video circulating showing the STF also attacking the people.

In the midst of these struggles, the Presidential Secretariat issued a statement at around 10.20 pm declaring a state of emergency for public safety in accordance with the provisions of the Public Security Act with effect from midnight yesterday (06). This is the second time the state of emergency has been declared within 40 days due to the protests.
